Do you have a love for Italy? Join us for a monthly historical lecture, where we will delve into various topics such as the history of trance music, Jewish culture in Italy, monasteries, and much more. During this month, the topic is The Pizzica Tarantata, the history of trance music in Southern Italy and the revival of the Pizzica Pizzica in Salento.

Ethnomusicologist Meri DeLorenzo Howard explores the history of the pizzica tarantata, music that served as catharsis for the emotionally distraught in Southern Italy when psychiatrists were not available. She will share some of the music performed by musical bands to help those infected by “the bite” and the revival of the trance music and dance that has created pizzica pizzica festivals in the Salento in Puglia.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (702) 507-3631.
