Q: Can I do court ordered community service hours at the library?

A: No, you cannot serve your court ordered community service hours at the library.

You can call HELP of Southern Nevada at 369-4357. They can help you find an acceptable location. Be sure to visit their website to see what information they'll need to help you.

Q: Can I donate items to the library?

A: The Library District is always happy to take donated books, magazines, DVDs and CDs. Items will be sold in one of the Library's Used Bookstores. All proceeds are used to support the Library District's services and programs.

Take your donations to the front desk of your library. The staff can give you a receipt for your taxes.

Q: Can I get a job at the library?

A: When there's a job opening at the library, we post the position on the employment page. Click on the name of the job to see the location, salary range, and qualifications.

You can get a copy of the job application at the bottom of that page.

Print the application out, and write or type in your answers. You cannot fill out the application on the computer.

You'll need to deliver your completed application to the Human Resources Department. You can mail it or hand deliver it. You cannot fax it or email it.

The Human Resources Department is located in the Las Vegas Library. Their address is:
833 Las Vegas Boulevard North
Las Vegas, NV 89101

Please do not send in a resume only. Human Resources cannot keep your resume on file. The library only accepts applications for jobs that have been posted.

Please check the employment page often, as new jobs are often posted daily.

Q: Can I get a test proctored?

A: Most urban libraries will proctor an exam, if the Library District Proctoring Guidelines are acceptable. Please review the guidelines with your school. If the Library's guidelines meet your school's requirements, please call your library's reference desk. The staff will help you make the arrangments and appointment for the exam.

Q: Can I pay my fines with a credit card?

A: Yes. You can pay with credit card in person at the urban library branches, Mesquite and Laughlin Libraries. You can also pay online from your home or library computer, through the Library District web site.

For online payment, log into My Account with your library card number and PIN. If you have unpaid fines, you'll see a button to the left of your name that says "Unpaid Fines." Click on that button and follow the instructions.

Q: Can I print my airline boarding pass at the library?

A: Yes. The libraries have public Internet access computers. You can get a guest pass to use a computer, and make a reservation to use a computer with a printer. Printing costs $.10 (ten cents) per page.

If you only need to check in for your flight, you can do that from the 15 minute walkup computers. Many airlines don't actually require that you print the boarding pass ahead of time. Often you can check in early, then print the actual boarding pass when you get to the airport. McCarran Airport has boarding pass kiosks available, and the airline will usually print the boarding pass for you when you check your bags. Please call your airline ahead of time to see if you can check in online early, then print your boarding pass when you arrive at the airport.

Q: Can I reserve a study room?

A: Most urban library branches have one or two small, private study rooms, available on a "first come/first served" basis.

Please check with your library directly for their specific study room rules and time limits.

Q: Can I return my items to a different library?

A: Yes. If you checked items out from any library in the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, you can return them to any other library in LVCCLD. You can see a list of the libraries here. Please don't return them to a school library, or to a library in Henderson.

Q: Can I use the library for a meeting?

A: Most urban library branches have one or two meeting rooms that are available for public use. Depending on the type of meeting you're having, there may or may not be a fee to use the room. Please call your library and ask for the person in charge of the meeting rooms, who will be able to tell you the size rooms they have available, whether they're available the date you need, if there are fees, and the other information you'll need.

Q: Can I volunteer at the library?

A: There are a couple of ways to volunteer at the library. The Library always welcome your help!

Many of the library branches also get a lot of help from volunteers. Volunteers cut paper, clean books, help keep the library neat, help with book stickers, and other routine tasks. Please call your library and ask for the volunteer coordinator, who will be able to tell you if there are any volunteer openings, and the requirements, or email us at volunteers@lvccld.org.

If you need to perform Court Ordered community service, you cannot do that at the library.

Q: Do you have a public fax?

A: No. The library branches don't have public fax machines. Many mailbox stores and copy stores have public faxes available for a fee.

Q: Do you have color photocopiers?

A: No. The library branches don't have color photocopiers. Many copy stores (such as Kinko's) have color photocopiers.

Q: Do you have ESL or GED or Citizenship test help?

A: Yes, the Library District's CALL program has ESL classes, GED test preparation classes, and Citizenship test preparation classes.

Q: Do you have photocopiers?

A: Yes, the urban libraries have public black and white photocopiers. Photocopies cost $.10 (ten cents) per page. The photocopiers take coins and dollar bills.

Q: Do you have tax forms and tax preparation help?

A: Most library branches stock common tax forms from early January through April 15th. The library branches do not provide tax preparation help, but groups such as the AARP do use rooms at some of the libraries to provide tax preparation help.

Q: How do I change where I pick up a request?

A: If you request an item, and the computer tells you it's sending it to the wrong library (or you just want to pick it up at a different library than usual), you can change the pickup location in My Account.

Click "View/Update Requests", just to the left of your name and address, then scroll down. (If you don't see the "View/Update Request" button to the left, just scroll down.) You'll see the list of items you have on request.

Choose the correct library from the drop-down box next to the title of the item, then (this is important!) click the Update List button, just above the list. That's what saves your changes.

If the computer is sending your requests to the wrong library all the time, you'll probably want to change your Home Library, so they'll got to the right place automatically.

Q: How do I contact the library?

A: You can can call or visit your library.

You can also use the "Contact Us" link. Just choose the most appropriate subject from the drop down box in the middle of the page.

When you write, be sure to include any information we'll need to help you. Some things you may want to include are
  • your library card number
  • the name of your library
  • the title and barcode number of a book you're concerned about
  • any other specific information we'll need to find an answer for you.

Q: How do I just ask a question?

A: If you have a question, you can call your library during business hours.

Q: How do I let you know that my address has changed?

A: You can change your mailing address at your library. Just stop at the front desk with your picture ID, and confirmation of your new address.

If your new address isn't on your driver's license or ID yet, some other items you can use to confirm your new address include:
  • Auto Insurance or Registration
  • Current Utility Bill
  • Lease Agreement
  • Matching name and address on postmarked envelope (postmark must be within 30 days and envelope must be typed - handwritten not accepted)
If you want to change your email address on your library account, you can do that in My Account. Click on the button that says "Modify Personal Info." You can update your phone number there also.

Q: How do I pay a fine?

A: You can pay a fine at your library, with cash, credit card or check. Be sure to have your ID with you, if you pay by check.

You can also pay fines on-line, with a credit card. Log into My Account. If you have unpaid fines, you'll see a button to the left of your name that says "Unpaid Fines." Click on that and follow the instructions.

Q: How do I renew a library item?

A: You can renew your library items several ways.
  • You can take your items back to your library, and renew them there.
  • You can log into My Account, on the library web page, and renew them there.
  • You can call your library, and they can help you with renewals over the phone.
You can renew most library items three times. You may not be able to renew some very popular items. You can read more about renewing your library items on our Library Card Information page.

Q: How do I replace a library item that has been lost, destroyed or stolen?

A: If you've lost or damaged a library item, please call your library. They will mark that item lost, and tell you what the replacement cost is. You can pay that at your library. Or, you can pay that on-line with a debit or credit card in My Account.

A: You can get a Comment Card at your library.
