Fred Sigman: Looking Homeward

This exhibition features “photographs from a life in Nevada” created by transient resident, educator, and photographer Fred Sigman.

Artist's Statement:

Fred Sigman has lived in Nevada as so many others have: as a transient resident in and out and back again. Having arrived in Las Vegas from Paris, France in the summer of 1968, he has photographed and written about the cultural and environmental changes of Southern Nevada.

Looking Homeward focuses on three bodies of work: Bottomlands: Photographs of the Las Vegas Wash, Casino Landscapes and Motel Vegas. The later project was published in May 2019 by Smallworks Press. As a reference to other work Fred has completed in Southern Nevada and the broader Southwest, a limited selection of photographs from other projects will be featured.

Fred continues to look toward his home in Southern Nevada, but these days he does so from his other home in Southeast Asia. From there he teaches online art history courses for the College of Southern Nevada.
