Robert Callister: April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865

The painting series April 12, 1861 – April 9, 1865 depicts iconic scenes and locations of the American Civil War through a unique timeless, yet contemporary lens.

"Growing up in Maryland, I had the chance to visit Gettysburg as well as numerous other historic Civil War sites. My interest in the subject started early and was abstract and guttural. My appreciation has grown as I continue to study the lives and monuments in and affected by the American Civil War. I agree with President Abraham Lincoln when he boldly stated, 'Any Nation that does not remember its heroes will not long endure.'" --Robert Callister

Robert Callister is an abstract impressionist based in Las Vegas, NV who received his BA from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He is a self-taught artist greatly inspired by the work of JMW Turner, Patrick Heron, Edward Hopper, Willem de Kooning, Edvard Munch, and Childe Hassam.

His artwork explores the middle ground between the abstract and definitive nature of an object or idea. “I try to be genuine and allow the subject to speak for itself. Painting has been a gift in my life and affords an opportunity to connect with others I might otherwise have known."

Robert currently shows in several galleries and is in numerous collections throughout the nation. He has been featured on Fox News with the Summerlin Festival of Arts, received the LV Red Brush award, was Lake Las Vegas Art Competition runner-up, and is a member of the Leftbank Art Collective.
