Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Debuts New Library Cards on Feb. 14, Celebrating National Library Lovers’ Month

Six new cards feature winning creative designs crafted by local artists

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District has announced the debut of its new library cards, which will begin circulation during National Library Lovers’ Month in February. Each card, launching on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, will feature one of six winning designs from the Library District’s first ever #GetCarded Library Card Design Contest.

The winners – Kenneth Lamug, Lisette Nunez, Catelyn Kaufman, Katelynn Day, Mehaliye Abate, and Robia Grasmick – will have their artwork featured on thousands of cards distributed to library customers throughout the coming months. Winning designs may be viewed above or at http://www.thelibrarydistrict.org/contest/

Those looking to obtain their first library card can sign up online or visit their nearest library branch. Once registered, they must pick up their card at a library by presenting a photo I.D. and proof of address, such as a utility bill. Existing cardholders may exchange their old card for one of the new designs by bringing their old card into their library branch. Their account history will then be switched over to their new account number.

Through the #GetCarded Library Card Design Contest, participants were asked to create an original piece of artwork that reflects what the library means to them. The Library District received nearly 700 entries and a panel of judges chose seven semi-finalists in three age groups: children, teens and adults. The final six winners were determined based off a public vote on the Library District’s Facebook page where more than 3,000 votes were cast.

“Those looking for a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day can bring their loved ones in to their nearest library branch and sign up for library cards together,” says said Dr. Ron Heezen, executive director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. “Our new cards are a fun introduction to the wonderful world of discovery, knowledge, and free entertainment that you can find in our buildings, and on our website, all year long!”

National Library Lovers’ Month takes place in February, celebrating the role that libraries play as an invaluable resource to communities across the country and throughout the world.

The new library cards are the first of many updates coming to the Library District in 2018, including a new website and logo. For more information, call (702) 734-READ or visit http://www.thelibrarydistrict.org
